Porsche 914 & 914/6 Owner's Documents

Uh, Where's the Gas Cap?

If you have the owner's manual for your Teener, you know that "The fuel filler pipe is under the front trunk lid," according to page 25 (picture included). Upon reading the next page (also containing a handy illustration), you would learn "The front lid release knob with lock is located under the left side of the instrument panel. The lid is opened by first pulling the release knob, then pushing back the safety catch under the lid. Spring tension keeps the lid in the open position." Of course that "spring tension" is likely not keeping the lid open as high as it did when the car was new.

If you are reading this page, there is an extremely good chance that you already know where to put gas in your car, but do you know the correct torque for your wheel nuts? How about the maximum acceptable cylinder compression delta? Do you know how to (correctly) adjust your valves and how frequently you are supposed to do it? Does your shop know the correct curb weight camber settings?

Before consulting an online forum or Website for the answers to such questions, peruse that little book in your glove compartment. Although the owner's manuals didn't always stay completely current on changes (perhaps most notably with respect to GAUGES), they provide an unexpected level of information directly from the factory. If your Porsche 914 roadster is all or mostly original, there is no better quick reference for routine operation and maintenance needs.

Unfortunately, we do not yet have permission from Porsche AG or Porsche Cars North America to reproduce the 914 owner's manuals or emissions booklets online, and we have neither the desire nor the insurance to run afoul of Porsche's legal staff. Subsequently, the buttons in the left sidebar lead to cover pictures and some basic information regarding the owner's documentation included with the model year cars indicated; there are no online copies of the documents themselves. As you have likely seen, pictures of excerpts of specific factory documents appear in various locations throughout P914 as warranted by the subject matter. In keeping with the spirit of copyright and intellectual property law, that is about all we can give you. If you are missing the factory supplied documentation for your car, we suggest using the link below:

Porsche 914 and 914/6 Owner's Documentation on eBAY

A few words of caution: make sure you are getting authentic factory items. We have mistakenly purchased reproductions from a well-known vendor who advertises quite a bit on eBAY, and the quality is completely substandard. It would appear that the reproductions are printed from poor photocopies of the original documents, so all detail in the illustrations is lost. Additionally, sellers will sometimes "imply" items are reproductions by omission... "We never said it was factory original."

Please note that this section is still under development. Additional (or improved) pages, information and pictures will be added over the next few weeks. As always, we welcome any pictures or information submissions, so please ContactUs@P914.
