Porsche 914 & 914/6 Gauges
No Pressure
Given the fact that there were only seven model years for the Porsche 914 and three for the Porsche 914/6, it is surprising how many different gauges were used. Gauges were standard or optionally available for every important measurement with the unexplainable exception of oil pressure, for which only a dummy light was provided. Our experience has been that oil pressure dummy lights are aptly named; they reinforce what is already painfully evident. This omission becomes still more surprising when you consider that oil pressure gauges had been standard on the Porsche 911 and 912 for years prior to the introduction of the 914.
Details & Fine Print
Anyway, this section describes each of the the gauges that were provided in the
Porsche 914 and 914/6 automobiles as well as depicting which
styles were used in which models during which year. The
buttons on the left lead to pages with detailed information on
each gauge used in the various 914 models throughout their
production. As labeled, the upper section of buttons focuses
on the gauges and bezels housed in the dashboard, while the
lower section concentrates on the gauges contained in the
center console included in the optional "Appearance Package"
beginning with the 1973 model year (914 only). All gauges used
in the Porsche 914 and 914/6 models were made by VDO and have
a blue production date stamp on the back (month & year)
and may also have the production date engraved on the side of
the case. This, combined with the part number printed on the
top edge of the face, makes it easy to determine the original
model and year vehicle in which the gauge was delivered.
