Porsche 914 Horsepower & Torque:
1974 - 1976 1.8 Liter "EC" Engine Code
Compensating for More Stringent Regulation
The graph below is a composite of the horsepower and torque
curves for 1974-1976 Porsche 914 vehicles with the
1.8 liter four-cylinder "EC" coded engines. The "EC" code engines are
basically the 1.7L "EA" code with a larger bore (93 mm v. 90 mm) to
increase displacement. This modification was designed to help offset
reduced compression (7.3 : 1 v. 8.2 : 1) in an attempt to salvage
performance while meeting stricter California emissions standards and
running on
lower-octane unleaded fuel. It didn't work. The 1.8L Porsche 914
engines are substantially inferior to the 1.7L engines in horsepower,
torque and acceleration. Additional information
regarding the "EC" engines is located (not surprisingly) on the ENGINE
SPECIFICATIONS page.

Maximum rated horsepower (SAE-Net): 73 hp @ 4800 RPM
Maximum rated torque (SAE-Net): 89 ft-lbs @ 4000 RPM
