The P914 Paint Code section is based on research, user input and factory documentation. There is widespread agreement on the codes and assigned marketing names for the paint colors that were offered as standard or optional for each model year on both the Porsche 914 and Porsche 914/6 (despite the fact that the names tended to change and the codes used for the four and six cylinder cars initially differed). There is, however, one discrepancy that we have not seen discussed.
Below is a rather poor picture of the factory-issued "1974 Porsche Colors" tri-fold brochure. This brochure, on which we based the P914 car color icons, uses actual paint samples to display the available colors properly (which is very cool). As you can see, it differs from accepted knowledge and documentation in that it displays "Gold Metallic" (L97H) as a factory-optional paint choice instead of "Delphi Green Metallic" (L99A).
Until now, we have accepted this aberration as an error in the brochure (which is certainly not uncommon in Porsche 914 documentation), because there are numerous examples of Delphi Green Metallic 1974 Porsche 914s still on the road, and very few 1974 cars in Gold Metallic (we have never seen one). Still, it seems odd that Gold Metallic paint would appear on the brochure two years after it was supposedly no longer a factory option. Any thoughts? Anyone out there have a 1974 Teener in Gold Metallic with a paint plate or window sticker to back it up? Any '74 Delphi Green 914 owners have their original window sticker?
